Pierre Gimonnet et Fils' Vielles Vignes de Chardonnay Brut receives 18 points! "I have the greatest respect for Didier and I love his wines, so I was very pleased to see this 2004 achieve the highest score in our 2004 Vintage tasting. It shared the top spot with Roederer Cristal Brut and Cristal Rosé and one or two other wines. The tasting was blind, and the three tasters were Essi Avellan MW, Simon Field MW, and Tom Stevenson (identified only by their initials below). The tasting is in the most recent issue of The World of Fine Wine, being published this week. EA: "Medium-deep lemon. Beautifully sweet, floral-fragrant, toasty nose, with gunpowder complexity. Tight, linear, compact, highly energetic palate. Long, racy, and zesty with lemony acidity. Not yet peaking. Delicious and full of life. 19" |
In the Press - October 2013 Three unusual wines - Armit Wines' Masseria Li Veli Askos Susumaniello, Salento 2011 "I tend to think of Puglia, down in the heel of Italy's boot, as a source of honest, warming good-value supermarket reds. In recent years, however, a handful of producers has shown that the region is capable of offering something a little more swanky and profound. I was particularly taken with a sophisticated pair from Masseria Li Veli's Askos project, which works with unsung and unusual grape varieties. The white Verdeca (£15.99), from a variety sometimes used to make vermouth, is briskly herby and cool. The red, from the rare susumaniello, is unusually elegant and refreshing with its sappy red and black fruit." http://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2013/10/tahbilk-not-dropping-pants-for-sales/ |

In the Press - October 2013 Lower alcohol levels for more refined Australian white wines "Australian drinkers have been moving away from the big reds and buttery chardonnays and towards more elegant, refined – and lower-alcohol – wines for some time. These finer boned wines are able to express a sense of place more readily than those with extremely ripe fruit and deafening concentration." Ben Knight, The Guardian, October 31st |
