John Armit - Founder
John has worked in the wine business all his life. He has lived in France, Sri Lanka, Spain and the UK and is known for setting up clubs such as Dingwalls, Zanzibar, 192 and The Groucho Club. In the late 60’s he was managing director of Corney & Barrow city wine merchants. He is considered responsible for introducing the great wines of Pomerol, including Pétrus, Trotanoy and Lafleur to the UK. In 1988 he set up John Armit Wines, with a staff of 3, and the business has flourished and diversified. John continues to advise a select number of the world's foremost collectors and investors. His friendship with some of the world's greatest winemakers and his detailed knowledge of Bordeaux has been key to the success of the business, as was his ability to guide his clients through the ups and downs of the fine wine market.
John stepped down from his role as Chairman in March 2011.
