Scores

Medium straw-yellow; needs a lot of patience, which it rewards with delightful aromas redolent of peach, white pepper and almond brittle, backed up by deep spice, has excellent focus; enormously concentrated on the palate, the fruit pushing forward behind the piquant spiciness, this is succulent and rich in extracts, with a firm acid structure, takes on a mineral element and lingers on the finish; a passionate Heiligenstein. A delicious and appetizing food accompaniment, for example with catfish on a vegetable bed. Winemaker

Tasting Notes

Thanks to the diversity of this site’s soil, with its ruddy weathered desert sandstone combining with volcanic compounds, the Heiligenstein produces a classically pure expression of Riesling. The flora and fauna that thrives in between the vines is usually found in far more southern Mediterranean areas.

ProducerWeingut Eichinger

Birgit Eichinger’s goals are clear – to optimise the natural aroma and flavour potential inherent in the grapes by matching varietals and terrain, practising careful vineyard management and applying painstaking vinification. Having begun her winemaking career experimenting with 3.5 hectares from her parents’ business in the Kamptal region of Austria, it didn’t take long to build on this success and establish a winery of her own. Standing at the foot of the Gaisberg mountain, the Weingut Eichinger winery is ultramodern and vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with the emphasis being placed on the purity of the grapes.
