Introducing Barolo 2013: Triumph of the Langhe
“Gorgeous Barolos… utterly captivating… classically built wines”
“I would invest in this vintage, especially now…”
There’s no doubt about it: 2013 Barolo will be one of the biggest fine-wine news stories of the year.
Following an illuminating tasting of one hundred and sixty-five 2013s from seven different communes in Barolo last year, it’s clear the anticipation surrounding this vintage is well-justified.
This month, we will be offering a selection of wines from across Barolo’s fabled villages and vineyards. These are wines we believe offer some of the greatest examples of vintage and terroir definition from a handful of Barolo’s finest producers.
Growers in the region beamed with pride when they recalled the elegance and precision of their 2013 Barolos: all the more impressive considering the vintage initially got off to a tricky start.
2013 shows an energy and confidence with fine, assertive tannins and a really invigorating freshness. Not dissimilar to the magnificent 2010s, but without the tremendous force of those wines, 2013 seems to point towards clear vineyard and village character. These wines will undoubtedly prove a considerable capacity to age and the best have a fine balance of elegance and profound muscle.
These are all the hallmarks of great Nebbiolo from this magical, vertiginous corner of northern Italy.
With interest in the region at an all-time high, there has never been a better time for customers to discover the wines of the Langhe. We urge you to seek out Barolos from both the most celebrated producers as well as those unsung heroes, whose wines are beautifully made and offer exceptional value for money.
Look out for our upcoming 2013 Barolo offers and the chance to taste the wines at our Italian tasting on 6th March.
