FRANCE

France benefits from a range of locations and climates that are suitable for growing wines, resulting in a diverse range of varieties and styles. Emphasis remains as much on tradition as technology, with particular significance placed on the expression of terroir. The finest wine-producing regions are Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and Rhône.

Other significant areas include Alsace, Beaujolais, Chablis, Jura, Loire, and south west France. A predominantly red wine-producing country, less than a quarter of all wine consumed in France is white.

Case of 6 £202.08

TASTING NOTES

Thrilling and bright in its nervy youthfulness; orange peel is to the fore on this elegantly scented Moelleux – the apogee of the Huet style.  Bright, crunchy honeydew melon is accompanied by exotic notes of mango and more subtle jasmine scents.  There is a delightful soft and sweet lemon meringue depth here too lifted by a superb mineral accent on...

TASTING NOTES

Seductive softly spoken Burgundian toast aspect with just a miniature, delicate, swathe of butter. Then a touch of sweet vanilla, purest citrus with a grapefruit tinge and bundles of energy. Bursting minerality and acidity beams and shines carrying the wine on a wave of limey purity that even a lime would be jealous of. Tingling in its vivacity and drive....

TASTING NOTES

It took Michel six years of observing and analysing to gain an understanding of this very rich and complex terroir. Grenache grapes come from 70 year old vines, grown on a magnificent plot in the heart of the garrigue scrubland. The Syrah grapes are ripened slowly on vines grown on clayey limestone soil and are also grown on the Maison?s...

FRENCH WINE

The most widely planted variety of French wine is Carignan, with other significant red varieties being Grenache, Merlot, Cinsaut and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ugni Blanc dominates the white grape plantings as the main variety used in the production of Cognac. The other principal white French wine varieties are Chardonnay and Sémillon.

WINE FROM FRANCE

From the full-bodied red Cabernet Sauvignons of Bordeaux and crisp white Sancerres of the Loire, to fine French sparkling wines from Champagne and beyond, start sampling our diverse French wines lists today.

FRENCH WINE REGIONS

The variety of conditions between, and even within, the main French wine regions, is what makes wine in France so diverse and exciting. From Champagne in the north, whose cooler climate necessitates labour intensive processes to produce their renowned sparkling wines, to Bordeaux in the west, home to around 10,000 French wine producers. Select robust reds from Rhône, fresh whites and sparkling wines from the Loire Valley. Or revel in the warmth of the Mediterranean coast, where sun-drenched vines produce fruity reds and refreshing rosés from Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence in the South of France.

Our selection of French wines has been curated from all corners of this wine loving country.

FRENCH WINE PRODUCERS

Armit Wines is proud of the relationship we’ve built with some of the most revered French wine producers in the country. Sample French wine’s rising stars like Agathe Bursin from Alsace, or explore more established producers of wine in France. The Guinaudeau family, producers of Château Lafleur and Château Grand Village are famed for the quality of their Bordeaux Supérieur and Bordeaux Blanc wines. While Domaine Huet is one of the greatest producers of single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley. We are also delighted to be the exclusive UK agency for the wonderful Champagne Gimonnet.
