FRANCE

A country like no other is synonymous with fine wine. France is a dazzling collection of terroirs, styles and price points. Too many to mention, France is home to some of the most recognisable and loved wine regions in the world. Having defined and helped shape some of the finest wine regions in the world, it is undeniable that France’s influence extends far beyond its regional boundaries. While classic regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy or Champagne, amongst others, continue to be the standard-bearer of fine wine production, the country is also rediscovering some of its lesser-known regions. The recent success of Provence, the Loire or the South West, testifies to the diversity, richness and heritage of winemaking in France.

TASTING NOTES

Notes of almond and white nuts on the nose with a citric accent to the fruit behind. The acidity brings a tingling sensation before the wine broadens out across the palate and then drives forward with purpose. On the finish, there is a lightness of touch that combines elegance and strength. Drink from 2015.

TASTING NOTES

Rich, leesy, mealy wine with notes of lemon and pink grapefuit, sherbet and a considerable sense of dimension here. Oak showing too but very well integrated with the zippy fruit. The finish reverberates, comes back time and again with another wave of flavour. Terrific wine. 83 Sem : 17 SB

TASTING NOTES

Barely 100 metres apart from Clos des Angles but a totally different wine. Salty, spicy and sculpted, this has a long, reverberating finish and great fluidity in the mouth with an excellent depth of fruit. But it is the minerality that marks it the most and shows particularly strongly in this vintage. Drink from 2014.

TASTING NOTES

A wine with real precision to its features, as if chiselled by a master sculptor. Notes of ripe kumquats and little tangerines, with zest, pith and juice all combining. On the palate there is a salty, marine element and an obvious mineral thread running through it as a backbone. The impression is of a racy wine with perfect line and...

TASTING NOTES

This wine is made from a selection of Chapoutier¿s oldest Marsanne(some more than 100 years old) situated at the top of the Hermitage hill, behind the chapel, in a place named the Ermite with very poor granitic andshallow soils where there is no alluvium deposited by the Rhône River. The very poor, granite soil therefore yields powerful, more austere winesthan those from...
