ITALY

Italy is a wonderful patchwork quilt of a country with incredible regionality and local traditions. Nowhere more is this apparent than in the rich profusion of indigenous grape varieties that grace the slopes and plains of many of Italy's wine producing regions. The production of fine Italian wines dates back over a thousand years. But it wasn't until relatively recently that a wave of young producers started to turn their attention to producing eye catching fine wines. Some did this by introducing international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay but others have worked hard with their native varieties to showcase just what a wealth of riches the country has to offer. This has had a profound effect on all aspects of the production of fine Italian wines and some would say that this is its golden age, with high quality available from house wines all the way up to the great wines of Barolo, Chianti and Brunello.

We are proud to represent some of the true icons of the Italian wine scene and with the recent run of fine vintages there has never been a better time to discover some of these gems. Explore our full...

TASTING NOTES

In this, Giusto di Notri's 20th vintage, there is no doubting the pedigree of this wonderful Super Tuscan. This brilliant release from Tua Rita is, quite simply, an embarrassment of superlatives. Incredibly bright, youthful Cabernet stands out among the classic blueberry, bramble and all spice. There is pepper, a hint of pot pourri and a smoky element which all follow...

TASTING NOTES

An Armit Wines favourite, Tua Rita’s 2012 Rosso di Notri exceeds expectations. Pretty notes of ripe plum, dark cherry and fruit compote create a generous and wild aroma. FINE ITALIAN WINES

Whether it’s a fine Tuscan Chianti, or a crisp Pinot Grigio produced in Italy’s northeast region of Alto Adige, the Mediterranean climate and rolling hillside vineyards ensure that the wines of Italy are held in high regard across the world.

ITALIAN WINES BY REGION

One of the most picturesque Italian wine regions, Tuscany is world-renowned for the variety of wines produced - from sweet dessert wines, to dry whites, to popular full bodied Italian red wines. The southernmost Italian wine region, Sicily, boasts Syrah – a wine that compares favourably with the Rhône Valley thanks to the near constant sunshine and dependable rainfall. Explore wines from the small vineyards of Piedmont, nestled at the foot of the Dolomites in the north of the country, and central-eastern Abruzzo, home of the Montepulciano grape yielding great-value, full-bodied Italian red wines.

Explore our carefully curated Italian wines by region.
