It was with great sadness that we learned of Bruno’s death last month, after an illness that had spanned over a decade. The praise pouring in for the “Maestro of Nebbiolo” is unrivalled and the quotes show just how much he was loved. Few wine producers anywhere in the world have done so much to put their region on the map, with wines of unrivalled individuality and brilliance. Galloni calls him “Piedmont’s first progressive, modern producer”.There is no more significant name in Piedmont than “el Maestro”, Bruno Giacosa. His reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the history of Piedmont has been built over 50+ years and the estate boasts some of the most sought after holdings in the region, in particular a tremendous parcel of Asili as well the majestic Falletto vineyard. We are also offering the newly acquired plot in Rabajà. These are amongst the jewels in his crown for they are without doubt some of the finest vineyards in Piedmont. Legendary oenologist Dante Scaglione has been back at the estate since 2011 and was in fine form at a recent visit. He was Bruno’s right hand man for some of the timeless Giacosa vintages and this great estate is now producing wines to equal the great wines of the past under the careful management of Bruno’s daughter, Bruna.Today’s releases include the Barbaresco Rabaja 2014 and Barolo Falletto 2014 which is considered an “exceptional” vintage by Giacosa due to the cooler weather which was “great” for Nebbiolo, producing very elegant wines that will unveil two extraordinary red labels. The Barbaresco 2015 Asili is the emblem of balance and fruitiness whilst few wines can compare to the Giacosa ‘red label’ Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto Riserva 2012 which is one of is one of the most hotly anticipated rare releases in the world of fine wine.Giacosa is one of the true greats and his wines are found amongst the finest wine collections in the world. Like Burgundy, these wines are only available in small quantities; treasures for those who have the opportunity to secure a few cases on release. Please do register your interest as soon as possible.
