En PrimeurLafleur 2025

The launch of Lafleur 2025 promises to be one of the most consequential Bordeaux releases in recent memory. It marks the first vintage in which the Guinaudeau family steps away from the Pomerol appellation and into "Vin de France". While this bold decision and the demanding conditions of the 2025 vintage tell a compelling story, our focus above all remains on the wines themselves. The wines released today offer effortless poise and finesse.  Find Out More
A Change to Remain the Same
2025 marks the first vintage in which Lafleur has chosen to step away from the Pomerol appellation into Vin de France, prioritising the identity and quality of the wines above all else. In many ways, it reinforces what followers of the estate have long believed: Lafleur is not simply Bordeaux, it is Lafleur.

With climate change now at the forefront of every winemaker’s mind, the estate began investigating long-term viticultural solutions as early as 2010, including techniques not yet fully accepted within current appellation rules. These included straw mulching, adapting canopy management, shading, and carefully managed soil water replenishment.

Protecting the Essence of Lafleur
The extreme conditions of 2025 tested Bordeaux in unprecedented ways. After a warm, dry winter came an even hotter spring, with signs of hydric stress appearing early in the season. Four major heatwaves followed, with temperatures in the fruit zone reportedly nearing 50°C and virtually no rainfall from 20th May to 20th August. Having prepared for such conditions over many years, Lafleur chose 2025 as the moment to act, applying these measures selectively in the most vulnerable terroirs to help the vines continue functioning naturally.

While all this is interesting, our conclusion is that nothing has changed. By preserving their legendary terroir, the wines are as incredible as ever- if not more so in this vintage.

Excellence Across the Range
Far from compromising the character of the estate, these measures have preserved the integrity of Lafleur’s legendary terroir, resulting in wines of exceptional concentration, balance and poise. The intense heat has allowed for generous fruit and ripe tannins with a powerful intensity that will carry the wines through the ages. Cool nights retained exceptional acidity, lifting the wines to an energetic and captivating finish. As we expect, Lafleur is outstanding, but the range of wines is where the estate is at its most impressive, producing four red wines of incredible standing and unbeatable value. The whites are just as enticing. Benefiting from richer clay soils, they endured the conditions with a little more ease and emerged with similar energy, exquisite texture, and tension.

Tasting Notes

I liked the 1997 Lafleur more than the 1996. It is one of those rare Lafleurs that lucky purchasers will be able to drink at a young age. An impressively saturated dense ruby/purple color is followed by the classic Lafleur aromas - jammy black raspberries, kirsch liqueur, prunes, and minerals. Forward, full-bodied, and sexy, with an unctuous texture, and gobs...

"Dark greyish crimson. More autumn leaves than on the two Pessacs just tasted, more developed Merlot character at the very beginning yet still, amazingly, there's a primary sweet cherry aroma. Overriding impression is fruit purity and clarity. Maybe just a hint of smoky liquorice. Rich and deeply fruited, firm, juicy, caressingly gentle and so persistent with impressive freshness. (JH)" 18.5,...

"Tasted blind at the Southwold 2012 tasting, the 2012 Lafleur has a very well-defined bouquet that is complex and laden with blackberry, granite, cedar and veins of graphite, all with razor-like precision. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation and lovely poise. There are plenty of graphite-infused black fruit interwoven into this Pomerol with a cheeky dab of spiciness on...

Simply stunning, weightless power.  A strong contender for wine of the vintage.  Floral lift, crunchy berry, saline and saline finish.  Wow.Malcolm Willatts, Armit Wines

"Tasted blind. Some savour. Fresh and racy, very sleek – with ‘cashmere tannins’. Polished and fun to drink already. Lots of persistence. (JR)" 18.5, Jancis Robinson
