Château Grand Village 2015

Header GVThe success of Bordeaux’s Right Bank in 2015 means that it is a particular delight to open this year’s En Primeur season with the outstanding Château Grand Village

Bordeaux’s best vintages are those that succeed at all levels and it is no exaggeration to say that the Guinaudeaus have produced an exceptional pair of wines at their home property. To find this level of quality at or around this price is rare anywhere, particularly in Bordeaux and especially from such celebrated winemakers.

Grand Village is Bordeaux at its most honest and authentic; wines made with endeavour, imagination, skill and passion and at a price that all wine lovers can afford

About Château Grand Village

Home to the Guinaudeau family since 1650, Grand Village is situated in Mouillac, near Fronsac, some 20km from its sister château, Lafleur. The importance of the relationship between the two cannot be overstated: one owes its quality to the other in equal measure. The red vineyards are planted approximately 80% Merlot to 20% Cabernet Franc while 2 hectares for white varietals are shared between Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The techniques and philosophy in play here are exactly the same as at Lafleur, meaning that the sole difference is site and micro-climate.

Indeed, it is the relative coolness of these vineyards that is the major difference and the principal reason, therefore, that the vines have performed so well in 2015, as they did in other celebrated vintages such as 1990 and 2005. With the additional precision and experience in the team, this latest version sets the standard at new heights and frankly, it embarrasses many more recognised properties from more lofty appellations. In many ways, Grand Village is the ultimate insider’s buy.
