Château Suduiraut 2015 - Sauternes, 1er Cru Classé

Bdx 15 Suiduraut

Château Suduiraut typifies the Barsac style. Almost 100% Semillon with just a splash of Sauvignon it is defined by a balancing acidity and creamy, fresh accent that lifts the wine. The picturesque, centuries old property frequently produces a wine that echoes the elegant, classical structure and beauty of the estate itself. There is, however, a nod to modernity beneath the surface.

As part of the cellar’s renovation an innovative system has been implemented allowing individual barrel temperature to be regulated individually. Likewise the wine is prone to flashes of exuberance. In 2015 wonderful dollops of ripe, exotic fruit explode onto the palate with lovely botrytis notes of spiced apricot. This is all deftly brought to a cleansing crescendo by a crest of acidity that makes this a well-rounded moreish proposition.

Pure and elegant with an enveloping bouquet of white stone fruits with notes of freshly cut pear and a hint of green ginger. The palate opens to reveal refreshing apricot and white peach fruit flavours with a seasoning of white pepper and spice on the finish. Succulent and full in flavour, this wine has serious depth and the potential to age well. Drink 2018 - 2025. Armit Wines 18/20

Round and complete with many layers of interest and an intriguingly dry finish after lots of sweetness and botrytis. Really well done! You could almost enjoy this already but there is lots more to come. Drink 2024-2050. Jancis Robinson, 18/20

The 2015 Suduiraut comes with 123 grams per liter of residual sugar, more modest than some of its Sauternes peers and 4.56 grams per liter of acidity. It has a sense of completeness on the nose already: immense clarity with wild honey and quince aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very pure botrytised fruit, very focused and one of the most intense Sauternes you will find this year. It feels long and sophisticated in the mouth yet never overpowers, never really has to put its foot right down on the accelerator. This is a wonderful Suduiraut, not quite up to the level of the ethereal 2009...although not too far off. Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate, 95-97/100
