About “G” by the Guinaudeau Family

As historians will know, in times gone by the vineyards of Fronsac were considered superior to those of St Emilion and Pomerol. The splendid, lavish Châteaux constructed there bear witness to this, in contrast to the more humble dwellings elsewhere on the right bank. However, post phylloxera and two world wars, fortunes changed and while the grand châteaux are still there, the attention of the world’s foremost collectors is not.

While fashions come and go, terroir does not, something not lost on the Guinaudeau family. On their daily journeys from Grand Village to Lafleur, they pass through the Fronsac region and over time have become more and more interested in the possibilities there. Fast forward to 2009 and this curiosity became a reality when they harvested the first grapes from parcels that they have acquired on carefully selected, limestone-rich plots. With the vineyards restored, replanted with original massale selection vines from Lafleur, the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together: a new Cru is being born before our eyes.
