At Château Maris, they strive to make wines which showcase the character of its terroir with particular emphasis on sustainability and protection of the natural environment. Robert Eden thinks of his vineyards as complex living structures and takes great care and pride in farming his estate biodynamically and has even built the world’s first hemp cellar, which was designed to run on zero carbon emission. The entire estate is hand-harvested and some plots are ploughed by the estate’s own workhorses each year, with barley, bulgur and mustard being grown in between rows to enrich the soil and strengthen the vines.
