PRODUCER

DOMAINE FAIVELEY

Nestled unassumingly on a quiet street in beautiful Nuits St Georges, Faiveley, headed by the suave and welcoming Erwan, is quite an operation. One of the truly great, historic domaines of Burgundy, with stunning cellars and many glorious holdings from Gevrey to Pommard, via some brilliant Grands Crus, Erwan and his new team have everything that a Burgundian could desire. Traditionally, the Faiveley style was uncompromising but while still unquestionably making some of the longest-lived wines in the Côte, there is today far more finesse and precision in evidence, pointing to a more careful and up-to-date approach.

TASTING NOTES

A real success, this has a bouquet of bright mulberries and ripe blackberries with a slight animal tone. The palate possesses darker cherries and bramble notes but there is some superb minerality that lingers leaving a slight chalky texture alongside some exotic smoky, spice notes on the finish. It is delicious, intense and charming and has great acidity. All the...

Domaine Faiveley

Case 3 x 150cl £862.08

TASTING NOTES

Dark, opulent brambly fruit hints at seriousness on the nose. With some patience and gentle coercing from the glass, perfumed qualities of violets and purple fruits start to reveal themselves. The palate displays an impressive scale and structure. The aromatic depth is more baritone than tenor here, with a meaty, spicy and leathery character at the fore. The textures are...

TASTING NOTES

Bold oak and dark fruits nose. Really rich, ripe entry - plenty of intensity and structure but also powerful and persistent black fruits and minerals. This is a broad shouldered, full-bodied wine with tremendous potential. Brilliantly expressive of its terroir. Drink from 2014

TASTING NOTES

We tasted this at the end of the line-up but it stood up well. An impressively complex wine, it has an expressive bouquet of dark plum and cassis fruit mingled with roses and violets.  On the palate, velvety tannins and succulent red berry flavours glide effortlessly along but beneath the seductive charm lies real depth and power. TASTING NOTES

A wine with great intensity and impressive length, it has an expressive bouquet showing green apples and spring flowers. The palate is youthful and energetic with concentrated flavours and a firm mineral structure which suggests great ageing potential. TASTING NOTES

More delicate than the Corton Charlemagne, this wine has an expansive bouquet of bright citrus fruits mingled with white flowers, honeysuckle and freshly cut almonds. A hint of butter and spice adds another layer. On the palate, a lovely sweet citrus character is balanced by an energetic freshness with a delicate seasoning of nutmeg and spices on the finish.
