DOMAINE GOURT DE MAUTENS

Jerome Bressy established the Gourt de Mautens estate in 1996, although previously the Bressy family had been growing grapes to supply to the local cooperative winery for several generations. Jerome has transformed the estate into one of the best wineries of the region through the dedicated use of traditional farming techniques. Methods such as co-plantation and gobelet training have resulted in higher quality wines with greater concentration and expression. The use of ancient and indigenous Rasteau varieties like Picardan, Vaccarese, Counoise and Terret adds an extra layer of complexity.

Complex and intense with peppery spice, dense berry fruits and hints of raspberry, cocoa and vanilla at the finish
Pretty, fleshy strawberry fruits hide a serious little character. It is a good match for grilled spring lamb.

TASTING NOTES

The cuvée is characterized by hints of floral and exotic fruits. The 2014 vintage, less hot than the previous ones, coupled with a harvest made with no excess of maturity allow this wine to keep acidity and freshness necessary for enjoying its very aromatic and rich flavours.

organic farming, Jerome and his father converted the vineyards in 1989 and have been certified biodynamic since 2008. Situated in Rasteau, the 13 hectares of vineyards lie mainly on north and southwest terraces and hillsides. Gourt de Mautens literally means “a place where water flows from bad weather” in Provencal dialect, which is a name that is derived from the unique Rasteau soil; the high marl content retains water to sustain the vines during the hot summer months. In addition, the vineyards are home to very old vines, some of which are 100 years old, which result in high quality, complex wines but give very low yields.

The same meticulous work undertook in the cellar - including gentle pressing, natural fermentation - results in three authentic wines which display such an array of aromas that you will be plunged into Provencal atmosphere as soon as you sip it.
