PRODUCER

GUARDIENSE

La Guardiense is a co-operative at Guardia Sanframondi near Benevento in Campania. There are now some 1,000 members, owning vineyards on excellent plots in the 40km long valley and slopes round La Guardia.

In 2006, they revolutionised their winemaking and cellarage with the arrival of celebrated oenologist Riccardo Cottarella and now bottle their very best wines, of which the Falanghina and Greco are the two that we have selected for our portfolio.

Guardiene’s Greco has a rich pine nut, honeysuckle and butterscotch notes which are beautifully off-set by juicy, tart green apple and pineapple fruit flavours. This full-textured wine would pair very well with a mozzarella and tomato salad or a seafood risotto.

TASTING NOTES

The 2008 Terre del Volturno is even better than the 2009. It comes alive in the glass with the blackest of cherries, tar, smoke, cured meat and the purest essence of these volcanic soils. The 2008 impresses for its huge structured and dazzling purity. It is vivid and constantly changing in the glass, with myriad aromas and flavors that captivate...
