Scores

Mid ruby with dark centre and surprisingly youthful looking. Very fine, spicy nose, with the beginning of tobacco. Juicy cherry fruit and muscular, powdery tannin. Finish shows pure fruit flavours harnessed by muscular tannin. I love the palate weight of this wine. Score: 17.5+ Points Walter Speller

Tasting Notes

This beautifully evolved wine retains its incredible core of pure dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit, spicy dried herbs and tea leaves, framed by tightly knit tannins and a svelte, gentle texture. There is incredible concentration here but a gentle, almost ethereal quality lingers in the mouth and creates a heady, aromatic perfume. Elegant yet powerful, this is a stunning wine that deserves to be enjoyed now though undoubtedly has a bright future ahead. This is very much Querciabella?s iron fist in a velvet glove.

ProducerQuerciabella

The name Querciabella is entirely appropriate to this estate in Chianti, which is surrounded by a sheltering forest of magnificent trees. Sebastiano Castiglioni is at the helm of one of the most innovative wineries in Italy, spearheading vegan and biodynamic practices in his two estates. Helped by the incredibly talented South African winemaker Manfred Ing, Querciabella are releasing not only some of the purest expressions of Chianti Classico but also venturing into Super-Tuscan territory with Camartina and Palafreno. Querciabella are also responsible for one of the most acclaimed Italian whites, Batàr, alongside a range of exciting Maremma wines.
