Good full red. Quite closed on the nose, with sweet oak dominating today. Then lush and stuffed with dark fruits but still with a medicinal restraint keeping the wine under wraps today. Comes off as less nuanced and vibrant than the Reignots, but the powerful back end features sweet tannins that are not at all aggressive. Winemaker Lachaux believes this will be his best Clos Vougeot to date.

Tasting Notes

This could be a year for those who avoid Clos Vougeot because of its muscular tendencies. This shows considerable finesse and the notes of liquorice, game and wild fruit, with the beginnings of leather too make this a fascinating wine to swirl in the glass. On the palate, it is clear that the wine is holding plenty in reserve and is still backward in many respects but there is considerable potential here but not the cloak of tannins so often found.
