Scores

Shows a leafy edge, with medium-weight pepper, mulled cherry and light spice notes, backed by crisp acidity. More pomegranate and cherry pit notes appear as this fleshes out in the glass.
88 Points, Wine Spectator

Vivid purple. Pungent, high-toned aromas of black raspberry, cherry-cola, spices and herbs. Juicy, smoky and spicy, with smoothly integrated acidity giving an impression of energy to its sweet dark berry flavors. Finishes brisk, with good bite and lingering spiciness.
89 Points, Josh Raynolds

Tasting Notes

This cuvée¿s primary source is a very steep, terraced vineyard in the Côte Brune above Ampuis. The soil here is notably more limestone schistous, whereas the old-vine source in the Côte Blonde, more acidic and sandy, provides wine of less dense colour. Pure Syrah (Michel adds no Viognier) grown at minuscule yields from 70 year old vines gives this wine power and spiciness, and perhaps less outright mass than any of the Ermitage sélections.
