BORDEAUX BLEND, Drinking 2020-2040+

Scores

A very complex wine, with black licorice, sweet tobacco, blackberry and earth. Full-bodied and long, with big, juicy tannins and lots of bright fruit, mushroom, earth and decadent fruit flavors. The most powerful wine of the vintage. Only 35 percent of the total production (normally this is 50 percent or 55 percent). Shows the selection. - 93-96 points Wine Spectator

Tasting Notes

Autumnal fruit, tobacco and spice, this is unmistakable on the nose and could only be Haut Brion. A dense, earthy and mineral mid-palate, a sturdy, sinuous structure and yet the sleekness and refinement that only comes from the very best. The tannins provide strongly support and the finish is sumptuous with the wine driving through with abundant energy. Drink 2020-2035+ (50CS:41M:9CF) - 18 points

ProducerChâteau Haut Brion

Bought by Jean de Pontac in 1533 and passing through 4 different families before its purchase in 1935 by Clarence Dillon, Château Haut Brion has had one of the most celebrated histories of any château. Prince Robert of Luxembourg and his mother the Duchesse de Mouchy, president of Domaine Clarence Dillon, must be proud that 75 years later the family is still very much involved. 3rd generation Jean Philippe Delmas is in charge of the winemaking, ably assisted in continuing the excellence of Haut Brion wines by Jean-Philippe Masclef as maître de chai, and Pascal Baratié the vineyard manager.
