Tasting Notes

Since he took over the family estate in 1988, Giancarlo Pacenti has climbed to the pinnacle of Brunello?s most esteemed producers with his modern and perfectionist approach to winemaking. A combination of old and new vines provides wonderfully complex fruit that helps define these excellent wines which are a very pure expression of the region?s finest terroirs. Quality is key here; a meticulous selection process combined with excellent terroir has helped define the estate as a Tuscan superpower. 2009 looks to be shaping up into an excellent, underrated Brunello vintage with plenty of charm and early drinking dates on offer. Siro Pacenti?s Pelagrilli is no exception. An excellent expression of Brunello with the classic cherry and leather nose leading onto a firm, structured palate that is crying out for a steak. This structure softens out into beautifully perfumed cherry fruit, a smoky minerality and spicy finish. We love Brunello and for those of you that haven?t tried it before we can?t recommend the Pelagrilli highly enough.

ProducerSiro Pacenti

This Tuscan wine estate was established in 1970 north of Montalcino by Siro Pacenti. Some of the vines planted by Siro Pacenti on the establishment of the vineyard are still there today, and some are still used for producing Siro Pacenti’s well-known wines. The grapes used to produce the famous Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino are grown in the clay soil, with breath-taking views of Siena.
