Scores

The 2010 La Chapelle de la Mission, which includes the production from the now-extinct La Tour Haut-Brion vineyard, is a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, which is a high percentage for the latter grape. Fleshy, succulent and opulent along the lines of the 2009 (which did surprise me), it is a big wine, with boatloads of glycerin and a classic Graves character of scorched earth, burning embers, charcoal, and plenty of black cherry and black currant fruit. The glycerin level is high, the fruit level impressive, and the purity and texture endearing. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. Score: 93 Robert Parker

Tasting Notes

A remarkably restrained wine in this vintage. Elegant aromas combine subtle red berry fruits with delicate mineral and savoury notes. On the palate, the tannins are firm, but refined, and the fruit, though sweet and ripe, is balanced by a very refreshing acidity with mineral notes on the finish. Over-all this is a very elegant wine. Drink 2019 - 2035

ProducerChâteau Mission Haut Brion

Haut Brion and its sister property, La Mission Haut Brion, which was acquired by the Dillon family in 1983 and is situated opposite the main estate, are almost entirely surrounded by the suburbs of Bordeaux. The vineyards are only 5km southwest of the centre of the city and it is a credit to the property that it has managed to continue unaffected by the encroaching urban sprawl. See More
