The grape?s deep purple skin harbours an abundance of assertive tannins while its bouquet is redolent of ripe wild berries, aromatic herbs and fine spices. Elegantly pervasive, laying out red fruits lifted by spice, vanilla and aromatic herbs. The palate is characterful, powerful and penetrating, mirroring the sensations on the nose. One of the most structured, muscular wines there is and one that demands great red meat-based dishes, such as roast leg of lamb, feathered game, roast shank of pork or veal and charcoal-grilled red meats. ProducerCastello di Buttrio

In Friuli’s Colli Orientali, Alessandra Felluga produces wines which proudly showcase the Veneto wine region of north-eastern Italy. Characterised by intense fruit and acidity, thanks to low yields, and minerality from the rich soil, Castello di Buttrio wines are best known for their single-variety bottlings of indigenous grapes - white Friulano and Ribolla Gialla, red Refosco and Pignolo. However, it also produces excellent Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as growing Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, for use in the red of the two blends.
