Reviews & Scores

The 2011 Mongrana is an unusually floral, delicate wine from Querciabella's estate vineyards in Maremma, where the wines are usually much more powerful. Dark red cherries, spices, licorice, tobacco and menthol are woven together nicely. This attractive, mid-weight red is best suited for drinking over the next few years. Best of all, it is a terrific value. The Mongrana was aged in cement and neutral oak.

Intense aromas of blackberries and black cherries with a note of chocolate and spice. Velvety smooth on the palate with rich black fruit flavours, some notes of coffee and a touch of black pepper. Good chewy tannins to balance and lingering black fruit flavours on the finish.

TASTING NOTES

Modern but restrained fruit with a tremendous floral scent, dark chocolate and leather. Manages to tame the wild tannins of Nebbiolo, giving a fine abrasion on the palate and bright acidity. Remarkably delicate structure, and very much drinkable now.

TASTING NOTES

An extremely elegant wine with an intense bouquet of dark cassis and plums with a rich, smooth palate of juicy, ripe blackberry and plum flavours balanced by velvety tannins and a refreshing finish. This wine is delicious now and will age well for a further decade. Drink 2015 – 2024.
