Scores

The wine is deep, rich colour and dark fruit and depth of aroma, giving hints of cinnamon and spice with liquorice. The palate expresses a coating textural richness with clear minerality, suppleness and elegance leading to a long, linear and tactile profile. It shows sinewy strength and fine granular tannins traveling alongside, volumising and plush fruit. Bell Hill

ProducerBell Hill

The Bell Hill vineyard was established in 1997 by Marcel Giesen and Sherwyn Veldhuizen on the site of an old limestone quarry in the Weka Pass. For this pair of experienced winegrowers, the combination of chalky, limestone soils and calcareous clays and the vineyards’ northerly exposure were the perfect setting for planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The wines that followed gave justice to their intuition: balanced, textural and incredibly complex. Bell Hill is setting a new bar for Pinot Noir in New Zealand.
