Tasting Notes

Lagrein is one of the secrets of the Alto Adige. A red variety that can yield a variety of styles, the Turmhof 2012 is a delightfully juicy yet structured red that offers extremely enjoyable drinking. Crushed red berries, violets and dark plum form the basis here upon which some toasty oak and graphite minerality sit. Plush tannins and a fine line of acidity add structure to this Lagrein and hint at some potential for short term ageing. This is a fantastic introduction to this traditional South Tyrolean grape variety.

ProducerTiefenbrunner

One of the oldest estates in Trentino Alto Adige, Tiefenbrunner Schlosskellerei Turmhof has a history of high-quality winemaking dating back to the mid-19th century. Before the end of the 2nd World War, Herbert Tiefenbrunner started work as a winemaker when he was only 15 years of age. Along with his wife, they took over the winery in 2000 with a commitment to continue in the centuries-old tradition of Tiefenbrunner wine-making culture. His philosophy is crafting wines with a distinctive personality, to outlast fashion ad trends. The result is a vibrant, expressive range that concentrates on single varietal, mountain fruit.
