Scores

I am enthusiastic about 2012. It was a hot, dry year, but with some rain at the end. The 2012s showed more freshness and vibrancy than the 2011s. In top vintages it is the hidden gem in this lineup from a price to quality perspective... I have little doubt that current vintages of Le Serre Nuove are actually better wines than the early vintages of Ornellaia. Antonio Galloni

Tasting Notes

Le Serre Nuove is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It combines the structure and balance of Ornellaia with the freshness and accessibility of a wine destined for younger drinking. The 2012 has an intoxicating and heady bouquet with opulent and exotic sweet cassis fruit characters complimented by rich spicy notes and dark smoky/savoury aromas. The palate is ripe and textured with velvety though structured tannins and lively damson fruit flavours. The finish is long, vibrant and refreshing. A wine of effortless class and sophistication that will be approachable in a few years but has fine ageing potential. Drink from 2015 ? 2030.
