Scores

The 2013 Etna Bianco Archineri is a full package Italian white. This is a pure expression of Carricante from 125-year-old, pre-phylloxera vines planted at 850 meters in altitude on the eastern flank of Etna near Milo. All the intensity you feel here comes from the suburb quality of fruit from these precious, ancient vines. The bouquet shows citrusy freshness with white peach, honey and cantaloupe melon. The mouthfeel is creamy and crisp with streamlined precision and great sense of energy. This Etna white has the acidity and natural structure for moderate cellar aging. Score: 93 Points Monica Larner

Tasting Notes

A very elegant wine with a delicate bouquet of white stone fruits with hints of apricot and peach mingled with savoury, mineral notes. The palate is very complex with an energetic mineral quality which runs through to the long finish. Drink from release.

ProducerPietradolce

One of the rising stars in our portfolio, since its founding in 2005 Pietradolce has come to own one of the largest collections of pre-phylloxera vines on the active volcano Mt Etna – which are up to 120 years old. This ancient mountain commands the winery’s devotion and respect, the energy and nuance of the volcanic soils producing truly phenomenal wines. Owner Michele Faro and winemaker Giuseppe Parlavecchio focus exclusively on local varieties Nerello Mascalese and Carricante, producing a range of pure, terroir-driven wines roughly structured as Village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru. While the do offer an elegance and depth reminiscent of great Burgundy, they offer incredible value compared to the Cote d’Or.
