On the nose, the sweet, lifted fragrance of roses slowly unfurls. Behind come the red fruits- pomegranate, red cherry and red currant. There is a crunchiness to the fruit on the attack but then the wine begins to flow smoothly across the palate, showing ripe and finely grained tannins without any austerity. The grip and bite of a classic Nebbiolo year is evident on the finish but there is also a seductiveness than only comes with masterful winemaking and healthy fruit. The flavours linger beautifully on the finish, a wine of natural balance, precision and focus and a total pleasure even at this early stage. Drink 2018-2030+.
Reviews & Scores
A genuine summary of the zone, in that Gaja’s 100 ha of Langhe vineyards include at least 10 different sites scattered around the Barbaresco DOP; the 2013 vintage is a fine one, perfect for revealing Barbaresco’s intricacy and grain. Scents of sweet, floating gentleness; ample poised, ripe classicism on the palate, with flavours of milky grace.
