Giacomo Fenocchio, Piedmont, Italy
Drinking Now 2040Giacomo Fenocchio, Piedmont, Italy
Drinking Now 2040Fenocchio's 2013 Barolo is an attractive, entry-level offering. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint and orange peel give the wine a slightly exotic feel. Soft tannins and mid-weight structure mean the 2013 can be enjoyed soon after release.
Antonio Galloni
Dried cherries, raspberries, tobacco and crushed flowers rise effortlessly from the glass. Delicate berry-infusions are contained within a tightly packed tannic structure. But the texture is beautifully silken. Freshness and verve are the hallmarks of this appealing vintage and this wonderful Barolo has it in spades.

When Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father Giacomo at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernist and traditionalists in Barolo was at its most acute. He decided to opt for a third approach, something we can call radical traditionalism. His wines were celebrated for being impressively approachable in youth while getting even better with age. Claudio represents the 5th generation of the Fenocchio family crafting elegant, true Barolos that capture the soul of his vineyards. Far from resting on his laurels though, he continues to push boundaries of quality and innovation while respecting his family legacy.
