Firm, concentrated savoury and complex on the nose. Tangy, succulent and only medium bodied, yet expressive and elegant. Moulded like a burgundy. Easily one of the best wines of this difficult vintage. A steal.
17.5 Points, Walter Speller

So much violet and mineral character to the nose of this Chianti Classico, which then turns to orange rind, stones and hints of cedar. Full body, grippy tannins, vibrant acidity and a driven finish. A wealth of florals run through this. Delicious now but better in 2019. Made from organic grapes.

Querciabella's 2014 Chianti Classico Riserva is essentially a blend of fruit that in other years would have gone into Querciabella's single-vineyard wines. Perfumed, silky and super-expressive, the 2014 possesses exceptional balance and finesse. Scents of lavender, rose petal and spice add lovely aromatic lift throughout. Most of the fruit is from the estate's vineyards in Gaiole and Greve, with a dollop of fruit from Radda. The 2014 has quite a bit of potential. I can't wait to see how it develops in bottle. Drink 2020-2034.

The name Querciabella is entirely appropriate to this estate in Chianti, which is surrounded by a sheltering forest of magnificent trees. Sebastiano Castiglioni is at the helm of one of the most innovative wineries in Italy, spearheading vegan and biodynamic practices in his two estates. Helped by the incredibly talented South African winemaker Manfred Ing, Querciabella are releasing not only some of the purest expressions of Chianti Classico but also venturing into Super-Tuscan territory with Camartina and Palafreno. Querciabella are also responsible for one of the most acclaimed Italian whites, Batàr, alongside a range of exciting Maremma wines.
