ALBARINO, DrinkingLagar de Cervera, Galicia, Spain
ALBARINO, DrinkingThis is so pure, pretty and bright. It has a lively citrus core (lemons and tangerines) with a hint of tropical fruit (passionfruit and pineapple), but never so much that it intrudes on the freshness. The acidity is quite lively, and it combines on the finish with a mouthwatering saline character. This is pure and very treble heavy, with lots of vitality yet no lack of flavour. Benchmark Albariño.
Jamie Goode
Bright mid-yellow, nose of yellow summer fruits with a briny edge, satisfyingly full on the palate with the typical Albarino zesty acidity, more weight than expected but no heaviness, just more fruit, good now but can be kept for a year or two.
Steven Spurrier
Yellow with green hues; clean and bright. This wine particularly stands out for its great aromatic intensity, with marked hints of stone fruit (peaches) and white fruit (ripe apples and quinces) against a citrus background of lemon tree leaves. Big, flavoursome and fresh in the mouth, with a well-integrated acidity. Fruity and particularly persistent finish.

Looking beyond Rioja in the 1908s, La Rioja Alta was searching for the future of white wine in Spain, and found it in Galicia. Lagar de Cervera was founded in 1988, one of the first producers to take Rias Baixas seriously, and today one of the key names in the region. Most of the vineyards are held in the O Rosal subzone, whose deep granite soils are widely praised as the ideal location for Albariño. Only 60% of the grape’s juice is vinified, creating an incredible purity and delicacy of flavour. The wines are produced in 100% stain less steel, with some lees stirring for added complexity.
