Warmth of dark berry fruit and a salty freshness is present on the nose, with crimson and raspberry fruit. Serious nose infused with elegance and subdued power. Supremely pretty. Layers unfurl with Morello cherry and damp spice. Cinnamon and clove. Damson and plum. Leather and tobacco. Lovely. A suggestion of savoury notes adds intrigue. Tannins build gradually and are so enjoyable but really quite burly on the finish. Offset by shimmering acidity and a crunch of slightly moody perfectly formed fruit. So keen. So vibrant. So moreish. Calon has really elevated itself to a new level this year and is in with a shout of being the glory of St-Estéphe. Score: 18.5
