Tasting Notes

A powerful, tightly wound wine that benefits from extended ageing. Again, a blend of two sites, totalling just 0.62 hectares of 30 year old vines, combined to elevate beyond the sum of its parts. Les Casse-Têtes is from the heart of the village. It means ‘heads of stone’ evocative of the rocky soils the vines have to contend with, bringing minerality and tension to the blend. Au Murger de Monthelie is on the north-western tip of the villages vineyards before it crosses the border into Volnay. The soil is 80cm of clay overlaying volcanic rocks bringing power and opulence to the blend.

Reviews & Scores

There is a mildly phenolic character (think olive oil) to the orange zest, petrol, pear compote and roasted nut scents. There is even better volume and richness to the medium weight flavors that are even a bit more tightly wound on the stony, bone dry and built-to-age finale. This is perhaps not quite as refined as the Clousots but it makes up for it in sheer punch. A qualitative choice. Outstanding Top value.

TASTING NOTES

Yellow with green hues; clean and bright. Outstandingly intense aromas, with hints of stone fruit (peaches), white fruit (pears and ripe apples) and quince, in addition to a remarkable lemon leaf citrus background. A flavoursome mouth is accompanied by an enjoyable breadth and freshness, together with a very well-integrated acidity. Very persistent, fruit-forward finish. Perfect to enjoy with any appetiser....

TASTING NOTES

The 2015 Marsanne is a mouth-wateringly refreshing wine with an attractive bouquet of bright citrus fruits with a hint of lime. On the palate, zingy lemon and juicy grapefruit flavours lead to a racy finish. A perfect aperitif at the end of a long summer’s day.Armit Wines
