BURGUNDY & CHABLIS WINE REGION

The Burgundy wine region has always fascinated and frustrated in equal measure. For every eulogising, life-changing proclamation from someone realising wine nirvana, there is some poor soul somewhere bashing their head in perplexity. At its best, Burgundy wine can provide the ultimate - the transcendental, mystifying, unexplainable pleasure that only truly great wine can bring. But at its worst, Burgundy wine can be an expensive mistake, bring disillusion and even provoke anger.

TASTING NOTES

Produced from 50 year old vines, this wine has a lighter and more aromatic profile. A floral bouquet leads to  a palate with bright red fruit characters and a delicate mineral quality. This wine will grow in stature as it matures in bottle. Drink from 2020.Armit Wines

TASTING NOTES

An Armit Wines exclusive and a Faiveley monopole high on the slopes of Gevrey, this elegant and appealing wine has a bouquet of sweet plums and blackcurrants with notes of exotic smoke. On the palate, supple cherry flavours and seamless tannins are balanced by a refreshing raspberry and cassis character which leads to an impressive finish. A wine which could...

“It is going to be really nice”, said Romain, with a proud smile! Made from old vines, it has plenty of depth and concentration. An elegant bouquet of sweet redcurrant and strawberry fruits is followed by a palate bursting with refreshing cassis and dark strawberry characters with a lovely tension between the sweet fruit and lively acidity. This has the...

TASTING NOTES

This Monopole from Faiveley is always a favourite of mine.  The bouquet is very inviting, with dark fruits to the fore and just a hint of spice.  The palate has a wonderful balance of fruit and freshness, flavours of dark cherry and raspberry combine into an impressive whole with good concentration and length.  This is a classy Gevrey that is...

TASTING NOTES

Made from very low yields in 2012, this has an intense bouquet of sweet dark berry fruits with hints of wild herbs and brambles which add complexity. The palate is dark and bold with a firm structure enveloped by succulent sweet red fruits. A wine with good definition and length, it will age well. Drink from 2017.

Rich purple fruit with blueberries, dark plums and toasty spice are complemented by a subtle floral lift. The palate is full, rich and powerful; a sensual and velvety mouthful with a taut, fresh mineral core, juicy purple fruit and lilacs. The finish is long and concentrated and the oak effortlessly integrated. Armit Wines

Burgundy Region

The Burgundy region is not the region of choice for the unadventurous or risk averse! How then to navigate the minefield? Our advice has always been, and still is, to get to know the Burgundy wine growers. It sounds like simple advice but with so many producers there are so many types of Burgundy wine. From powerful négociant houses to the new breed of micro négociants, from large, historic Burgundy wine estates to tiny family domaines, you need to know where to turn and who can be relied upon.

At Armit Wines, we work with Burgundy wine region growers who we count amongst our friends. These are by definition, people that won't let you down. These are personal contacts gleaned from years of visiting, talking, tasting and building relationships. Some friendships grow whilst others fade of course but the great ones endure: legendary, ground-breaking Burgundy region growers such as Anne-Claude Leflaive and Guillaume d'Angerville; superstars such as Pascal Lachaux, Christophe Roumier, Jean-Marc Roulot and the Raveneau brothers; under-appreciated talents such as Patrick Bize and Richard Fontaine.
