BURGUNDY & CHABLIS WINE REGION

The Burgundy wine region has always fascinated and frustrated in equal measure. For every eulogising, life-changing proclamation from someone realising wine nirvana, there is some poor soul somewhere bashing their head in perplexity. At its best, Burgundy wine can provide the ultimate - the transcendental, mystifying, unexplainable pleasure that only truly great wine can bring. But at its worst, Burgundy wine can be an expensive mistake, bring disillusion and even provoke anger.

TASTING NOTES

Complex and energetic with subtle notes of lavender and spice, this has an elegant sweetness on the palate with fine tannins and a refreshing mineral quality which runs through to a long finish. This is a vital wine with a lot going on but there is still plenty more to come.

Case of 12 £408.94

TASTING NOTES

Sheltered by the great monoliths of Solutré and Vergisson, the terraced slopes of Pouilly-Fuissé produce some of the greatest whites in Burgundy. The appellation extends across four communes: Solutré-Pouilly, Fuissé, Chaintré and Vergisson. The clay and limestone terroir of Vergisson gives these wines a particularly complex character. Armit Wines

TASTING NOTES

A reknowned 1er cru sandwiched between Les Cras and Bonnes Mares, this Fuées shares many of the trademark mineral qualities of its neighbours but with perhaps a little more style and flair at this stage but with less held back in reserve. This is beautifully balanced, with abundant freshness. Drink from 2011.

2015 Meursault

Domaine Faiveley

In Stock

Bottle 75cl £34.68

TASTING NOTES

There is plenty of volume here; a rich, unctuous style that drives forward with cream, butter, pastry and soft yellow fruits. The decadent finish lingers impressively here with enough minerality and acidity to hold balance. This is a hedonistic yet well-made Meursault. Drink from 2019.Armit Wines

TASTING NOTES

A true, sturdy Nuits with a solid frame and a masculine, meaty character. There is a savoury, spicy edge to the fruit here and on the palate the wine moves with freedom, showing finesse and a lightness of touch. There is considerably more to come here, the wine clearly possessing excellent depth and requiring time to develop fully. Drink from...

Burgundy Region

The Burgundy region is not the region of choice for the unadventurous or risk averse! How then to navigate the minefield? Our advice has always been, and still is, to get to know the Burgundy wine growers. It sounds like simple advice but with so many producers there are so many types of Burgundy wine. From powerful négociant houses to the new breed of micro négociants, from large, historic Burgundy wine estates to tiny family domaines, you need to know where to turn and who can be relied upon.

At Armit Wines, we work with Burgundy wine region growers who we count amongst our friends. These are by definition, people that won't let you down. These are personal contacts gleaned from years of visiting, talking, tasting and building relationships. Some friendships grow whilst others fade of course but the great ones endure: legendary, ground-breaking Burgundy region growers such as Anne-Claude Leflaive and Guillaume d'Angerville; superstars such as Pascal Lachaux, Christophe Roumier, Jean-Marc Roulot and the Raveneau brothers; under-appreciated talents such as Patrick Bize and Richard Fontaine.
