CARINENA

Located in the Ebro Valley hovering a little further south-east than Rioja and Navarra, the DO of Cariñena is planted with around 16,000 hectares of vines, distributed amongst approximately 2,000 growers. The continental climate and extremes of temperature from daytime to nighttime play a significant role in the characteristic intensity of the wines from Cariñena. The most widely planted grape is Garnacha Tinta (aka Grenache), which thrives on the limestone and rock soils and, having undergone rapid development throughout the 1990s, many wines now have much greater balance and refinement than has previously been associated with area.
