Urla, a typical Aegian town, located between ?zmir (the third largest city of Turkey and an important seaport) and the popular holiday town of Çe?me. A settling area since 8.000 BC, the region has always been an important zone for agriculture. Urbanization, around 2.500 BC, gave rise to commerce and turned the town into an important harbour. Urla, with the name ‘Klazomenai’, was an ancient Greek city of Ionia. Olive oil and wine were the major products for export while the harbour expanded its significance as the main connection between the island of Chios and Izmir.
