LOIRE

The Loire valley is perhaps France's most overlooked wine producing region. It is an extremely large and diverse area with 87 appellations. It is the largest white wine region in France and the second largest region for sparkling wine. The climate is cool, producing delicate, crisp wines, often with high acidity. Its expansiveness and diversity result in a variety of different wine styles, from the crisp, mineral Sancerres and Muscadets to the powerful, red Chinons and the sweet Coteaux du Layon wines, all of which deserve more attention than they currently receive in the international wine market.

TASTING NOTES

The top dry cuvée for many Huet fans from the Clos next to Vouvray's cemetery. It exhibits a very pure and lightly perfumed apple and pear aroma.  The palate has a saline backbone which adds tension and focus to a seriously classy wine.  There is an almost electrical current running through it as it crackles with minerals.  The finish is...

TASTING NOTES

Le Mont is instantly mineral in nature; the lovely orchard scents are lifted by green pear flesh, and accented with a grippy citrus-pith.  The palate has intense texture and flinty minerality  which finishes with a very appealing hint of ripeness. This wine is all about texture and tension. Stunning now, this will no doubt unfurl over the next 3-5 years.

Thrilling and bright in its nervy youthfulness; orange peel is to the fore on this elegantly scented Moelleux – the apogee of the Huet style.  Bright, crunchy honeydew melon is accompanied by exotic notes of mango and more subtle jasmine scents.  There is a delightful soft and sweet lemon meringue depth here too lifted by a superb mineral accent on...

The colour itself is immediately appealing. Notes of melon and pretty floral blossoms abound. Broad, encompassing and ripe, this is indulgent yet never heavy. Notes of lime and orange blossoms abound alongside stony, nuanced mineral. There is a fullness here that is finely balanced by a graceful, delicate mint and sage freshness.  This Clos du Bourg Demi Sec treads like a tightrope walker between citrus acidity and the sweet florals of honeysuckle.  Complex and incredibly fine, this wine was made in minute quantities.  What...

TASTING NOTES

A striking, crystalline nose evolves from floral, to spice to orange peel and then white pepper. 2016 really seems to be a demi-sec vintage in particular, as this Le Mont demonstrates.  Whilst there is sweetness, the wine is exceptionally pure and light on its feet. An exquisite juxtaposition between white orchard fruit and a minerally citrus frame; the fine vinous...

winemaking regions stretch right across the Southern coast of France. Provence is perhaps the warmest wine region in France and produces mainly rosé and red wine. Provence wine has often been compared with the wines of Southern Rhône, as they share both grapes and, to some degree, style and climate.

The Languedoc region is primarily red wine territory, although some rosé is produced, as well as increasing amounts of attractive whites. The area was transformed by the Vin de Pays classification of 1979, permitting the cultivation of new grape varieties and the opportunity to rival the New World crusaders with varietal labelling.
