RUEDA

After the destruction of phylloxera, Rueda was replanted with the high-yielding Palomino grape. Plantings gradually declined in favour of the local Verdejo grape, which grew in popularity towards the latter half of the 20th Century, and Rueda was awarded DO status in 1980. The modern style of Rueda is a light, fruity, dry wine which must contain a minimum 50% Verdejo, and can be blended with Viura, or it can be a Sauvignon Blanc varietal.
