SICILY

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and has a rich vinous history dating back over 2500 years. Its classic Mediterranean climate and soil has resulted in an area not only ideal for winemaking, but also olives and citrus fruit which are key exports. Mount Etna dominates the landscape, providing mineral-rich dark soil, and vineyards are being planted higher up the slope. Historically more famous for the production of Marsala, serious transformation is taking place. Sicily wines are now becoming better known for top quality, from a range of varietals including Grillo, Cataratto and Nero d’Avola alongside international varieties.

TASTING NOTES

This Archineri Etna Rosso is a wine of absolutely stunning precision and character.  It is very reflective of its volcanic territory; with a fine, smoky intensity.  Bright redcurrant, dried rose petal and crab-apple notes accompany subtle earthy and herbal scents.  This savoury complexity is supported by fine, chewy tannins and textbook cherry juiciness.  This is a serious wine which demands...

SICILY WINE REGION

Discover the broad range of Sicilian wines from our diverse selection. For a red wine with fruity undertones, try the Beleda Catarratto from Cantine Rallo. Made with primarily Catarratto grapes, the producers vary the remaining grapes each year, so no two vintages are the same. For a dry and crisp white, Pietradolce produce their Rosato – a summery and vibrant Sicilian wine, with a slight acidic undertone. Browse our range of wines from Sicily to find the next addition to your wine cellar.

PRODUCERS OF THE SICILY WINE REGION

Armit Wines proudly supplies Sicilian wines from two producers: Cantine Rallo and Pietradolce. Cantine Rallo has a long history, established in 1860 to produce both table wine and Marsala. Pietradolce has quite a different history. Opening in 2005, the Pietradolce vineyard is situated on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The producers’ modern approach to viticulture has seen them labelled as one of the Sicily wine region’s most respected producers in only a very short space of time.
