SICILY

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and has a rich vinous history dating back over 2500 years. Its classic Mediterranean climate and soil has resulted in an area not only ideal for winemaking, but also olives and citrus fruit which are key exports. Mount Etna dominates the landscape, providing mineral-rich dark soil, and vineyards are being planted higher up the slope. Historically more famous for the production of Marsala, serious transformation is taking place. Sicily wines are now becoming better known for top quality, from a range of varietals including Grillo, Cataratto and Nero d’Avola alongside international varieties.

TASTING NOTES

This remarkable new wine from the tiny island of Pantelleria is an important new addition to Tua Rita’s stable. Proprietor Stefano Frascolla and his wife, Simone, daughter of Rita Tua, fell in love with an ancient, rugged property in Bukkuran on the north east of the island. 2016 is their first vintage of this special sweet wine, that has beautiful...

TASTING NOTES

A unique wine from pre-phylloxera, 100 year old Nerello Mascalese, whose yields are minute and produce less than half a bottle of wine per vine.  The result is an extraordinary achievement, particularly in 2014 which was an excellent vintage in Sicily.  Powerful, concentrated morello cherry combines with violet, raspberry coulis and impressive herbal and spicy scents.  There are full, mouthcoating...

TASTING NOTES

A brand new Cru, of just 1800 bottles,, we have just a handful of cases available. This wine is a labour of love, made from carefully selected 100 year old vines and vinified in French oak vats, allowing for a long skin maceration which has helped to develop an intense texture, which still crackles with minerals and spice. Lemon peel,...

SICILY WINE REGION

Discover the broad range of Sicilian wines from our diverse selection. For a red wine with fruity undertones, try the Beleda Catarratto from Cantine Rallo. Made with primarily Catarratto grapes, the producers vary the remaining grapes each year, so no two vintages are the same. For a dry and crisp white, Pietradolce produce their Rosato – a summery and vibrant Sicilian wine, with a slight acidic undertone. Browse our range of wines from Sicily to find the next addition to your wine cellar.

PRODUCERS OF THE SICILY WINE REGION

Armit Wines proudly supplies Sicilian wines from two producers: Cantine Rallo and Pietradolce. Cantine Rallo has a long history, established in 1860 to produce both table wine and Marsala. Pietradolce has quite a different history. Opening in 2005, the Pietradolce vineyard is situated on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The producers’ modern approach to viticulture has seen them labelled as one of the Sicily wine region’s most respected producers in only a very short space of time.
