The Nagambie Lakes area in Victoria, Australia was given official recognition as a viticultural sub-region in 1993. Nagambie Lakes is the only wine region in Australia, and indeed one of only six worldwide, where the meso-climate is dramatically influenced by inland water mass. The Goulburn River links the numerous lakes and lagoons, all of which have a cooling effect on the climate and create a varied diurnal temperature range.
