TASTING NOTES
more
Burgundy has had a series of difficult vintages which has removed the equivalent of the production of an entire vintage over the last five years. Devastating frosts destroyed large swathes of the 2016 crop but the damage was uneven. Some vineyards had normal harvests while other parcels, including several Grands Crus, were almost wiped out. Conditions were definitely challenging in 2016 but the mood amongst growers was upbeat when we visited in the autumn of 2017.
The wines are characterised by their classical style, with ripe and energetic fruit to the fore. We expect the wines to be extremely popular and many will sell out quickly. Please be swift if you wish to place an order.

Bright, smoky red and black fruit provides a subtle floral lift. The palate is very fine, with a lovely velvety grip and fresh mouth-watering acidity. Dark wild fruits and a hint of liquorice spice on the palate show lovely density and richness before the long, supple finish. Drink from 2022.Armit Wines

Exceptional purity and precision of the crisp green apple and riper cox apple fruit combines with a nervy acidity to provide juiciness and energy to this wine. A powerful, tightly wound wine that benefits from extended ageing. Again, a blend of two sites, totalling just 0.62 hectares of 30 year old vines, combined to elevate beyond the sum of its parts. Les Casse-Têtes is from the heart of the village. It means ‘heads of stone’ evocative of the rocky soils the vines have to contend with, bringing...

From a tiny 0.3 hectare plot planted in 1936, the wine shows incredibly intensity with lifted aromatics of spring blossom and white pears underpinned by a firm, chalky minerality reflecting the sandy marl and limestone soils of this steep slope. The finish is long and concentrated with a lovely mouth-watering acidity. Armit Wines

A concentrated but restrained nose with subtle red cherry and ethereal smoky, floral notes, leads to a palate of ripe, concentrated smoky black and red cherries and juicy strawberry and raspberry fruit. The spicy palate is enhanced by lovely chewy tannins and a firm, powerful mineral length. Very impressive indeed. Drink from 2023.Armit Wines
