The Best New 2013 Brunello di Montalcinos
We noted a palpable sense of optimism from producers in Montalcino during our extensive tastings in Tuscany’s most famous wine region earlier this year. Momentum seems to be gathering pace here as an increasingly engaged global audience discover the historic, famed estates and their hallowed terroir. The forthcoming release, 2013, is eagerly anticipated and James Suckling writes that “the best names fine-tuned viticulture practices to get the most out of the grapes and produce great wines”. The Consorzio of Brunello di Montalcino awarded the vintage four out of five stars – good rather than excellent. Walter Speller states that “the greatness of 2013 depended on whose hands it was in... as with all great wine regions everywhere, the clue to quality lies in the producer’s name”. It is with this in mind that we have curated a list of our favourite producers this vintage, to ensure you have access to the very best.In fact, we encourage you to add Brunello di Montalcino to your cellar with even more gusto this year. Many producers have not made a 2014 due to the cold and wet conditions of the vintage.
“The 2013 vintage in Montalcino has produced accessible, fine and elegant wines.”
Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
