The Very First Vintage of Torre de Oña Martelo Reserva 2012, La Rioja Alta S.A
We are delighted to be able to offer the very first vintage of Torre de Oña Martelo Reserva 2012 from La Rioja Alta S.A. Unusually for a Rioja, it is made from particular plots at a single estate.
Torre de Oña was acquired in 1995 with the aim of making wines from a single estate, rather than from vineyards spread across Rioja. Considerable investments have been made since then, but in more recent years wine maker Julio Sáenz and his expert team have paid very special attention to the qualities of individual plots. Torre de Oña Martelo Reserva 2012 is the culmination of this ambitious project to create a more complex and refined wine which expresses the qualities of individual terroirs.
Made predominately from old vine Tempranillo with a small amount of Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura from the highly regarded 2012 vintage, this is an elegant and refreshing wine with supple fruit characters and great depth. Maturation in 80% American oak barrels and 20% French barrels for 24 months softens the texture and adds a spicy complexity to the finish.
Perfect for drinking now, this wine has plenty of ageing potential and will develop further depths of flavour over the next ten years or so.
