Tasting Notes

Pure, cool and inviting, this is an awesome GPL. The nose opens with the essence of cassis before moving through to forest fruits and cedar spice. On the palate, the wine is lively, layered and succulent with plenty of intensity and fabulous length. This is an elegant and extremely fine Pauillac and a terrific result for Xavier Borie. Also highly rated by Jancis Robinson (18/20) and Neil Martin (94-96pts).

Reviews & Scores

(76% cabernet sauvignon, 22% merlot and 2% cabernet franc) Good medium ruby. Pure, high-pitched aromas of black fruits, violet and menthol, with herbal and minty nuances. Suave on entry, then sweet and bright in the middle, with nicely integrated acidity giving the wine a juicy character and very good definition. This is fine-grained but a bit lean, with moderate flesh to support its dusty tannins. Just a tad herbal on the end. But then this is classic cabernet-based wine from Pauillac. 89-91 points

Darker fruits on the nose and palate than the Estate Cabernet, the ESP has a richer palate spectrum with more poise and power. Intense black fruits, coffee, black olives and more spice with excellent concentration of fruit on the finish. A wonderfully impressive...

The Shiraz grapes for this ESP 'reserve cuvee' were sourced mainly from vines planted on the Estate during the 1930s. Rich, dark fruit scents with a mix of spice leap from the glass. Powerful and rich black fruit flavours on the palate with excellent depth of fruit, layered complexity with notes of spice, pepper and licorice. The overall balance is...

This tenth anniversary release comes straight from the cellars in Greve in Chianti.  The 2007 provides a stunningly approachable expression of musky red cherry, black plum, blackberry jam, tobacco and brown spices. This is a full-bodied, broad and pliant wine with a saline nuance adding complexity to the dark fruit, sage and rosemary flavours. The herbal element repeats on the...
