Tasting Notes
Situated in the beautiful ?Golden Shell? (Conca d?Oro) around the village of Panzano in Chianti Classico, Castello dei Rampolla has long been a darling of fine wine lovers. Its owner, Alceo di Napoli, was inspired by the work of Sassicaia?s oenologist, Giacomo Tachis, and successfully began his own Cabernet Sauvignon project in the early ?80s, falling in love with the Tuscan incarnation of this inimitable grape. Alceo is named in honour of his pioneering ways, coming from a superb single-vineyard site and comprising Cabernet Sauvignon with a kiss of Petit Verdot. Quite rightly, Alceo has carved a niche as one of the great Super Tuscans and in 2007 it reached dazzling new heights, gaining 98 points from Antonio Galloni who described the vintage here as ?the finest? I have ever tasted from this reference point winery?.
