Absolutely outstanding. This low dosage cuvée captures the brilliance of 2008. Classic Gimonnet: racy, driving and mineral with real delicacy. This blossoms in the glass to reveal an underlying seriousness which will unravel with age. Spectacular today but with a big future.

Unlike the Cuis, the Oenophile is mainly based on grand cru grapes (33.5% of the blend comes from Cramant, 32.5% from Chouilly and 10% from Oger, all celebrated grand cru sites), and this helps to add a hint of smoky minerality to the wine?s layered flavours of white blossoms, lemon zest and crunchy green apples.

100% Chardonnay. Essentially the 2008 Fleuron with zero dosage. 33.5% Cramant, 32.5% Chouilly, 10% Oger (all grands crus), 22% Cuis premier cru, 2% Vertus. Stainless steel. 8 months on lees. Malo done. Bottled April 2009. 5–6 years on lees. Dosage 0 g/l. Lots of evolution and satisfaction on the nose. Relatively ripe start and quite enough ripe fruit to compensate for zero dosage. Pungent, well-balanced wine – one of the best non-dosé examples in this tasting. Smoky finish. Drink 2018-2028.
