CHARDONNAY, Drinking 2017

Scores

Moderate sulfur compromises mildly the otherwise intense and pungent nose of Auxey-style earthy green fruit and citrus rind aromas. There is fine richness to the round, intense and nicely voluminous flavors that brim with dry extract on the mouth coating finish. As one would reasonably expect given the appellation, there isn't much finesse here but plenty of character. April 2011, Burghound.com Allen Meadows

Tasting Notes

The Deux Montille vineyards are in south of the village of Auxey Duresses. The vines are facing east and are located just below the 1er Cru appellation ?delimitation?. This gives the grapes maximum sun exposure and in 2009, the vines benefited from good weather conditions (maybe the best of the decade?), this gives the wines all its buttery roundness and opulent character. Of course the classic chardonnay acidity balanced with citrus fruits and herbal aromas fill the glass. The influence of the wood has almost faded away and left room for full minerality and a clean finish. Don?t wait drink now!

ProducerMaison de Montille

One of the great estates in Burgundy, Domaine de Montille produces incredibly elegant and understated wines. Established by Hubert de Montille, who inherited a few Volnay vines in 1951, the estate now comprises 17 ha. The wines had a reputation for requiring a long time to reach maturity but under Étienne de Montille, with the help of Chef de Cave Brian Sieve, the aromatic complexity of the wines has been brought to the fore.
