Tasting Notes

Gaja¿s Sorì San Lorenzo is made from old vines on south facing slopes and is usually the most concentrated of the single vineyard Barbarescos with the capacity to age for 30 years or more. The 2009 follows very much in this style with intense, deep plum and dark berry aromas with notes of black mulberry fruits, wild herbs, exotic spices and truffles. The palate is intensely rich with masses of deep, dark fruit balanced by a magnificent structure with firm, perfectly integrated tannins. An elegant mineral character and hints of dark chocolate with a spicy, cedar note on the finish gives superb depth and great definition. The is a very impressive and multi-layered wine with masses of depth and though remarkably appealing now it has plenty of ageing potential and deserves at least 10 years in bottle before drinking.

“A darker, more structured Barolo than his sibling, Prapo’ is an incredibly pure expression of the terroir of Serralunga. Precise notes of red and black berries, forest floor and dark spices are framed by tight woven tannins and lively freshness. An exciting release that has the potential to be enjoyed for the next 10 years.” Armit Wines

“Taut, elegant, ethereal expression of Nebbiolo. A purebred Barolo that entices with notes of red fruits, meadow flowers and just hints of Italian leather and spices. Already approachable, Cerretta will be a sure joy to revisit in five to ten years.” Armit Wines
